If your LA business is still running on traditional phone lines, you are probably spending way more than you need to. VoIP phone systems have gotten really good in the last few years, and the cost savings alone make the switch worth considering.
We have moved dozens of businesses in Los Angeles from old phone systems to VoIP, and the feedback is almost always the same. They wish they had done it sooner.
What VoIP Actually Means for Your Business
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Instead of using copper phone lines, your calls go over your internet connection. The quality is just as good as traditional phones now, sometimes better, and you get a bunch of features that would cost extra with a regular phone company.
Call forwarding, voicemail to email, auto attendants, call recording, and conference calling all come standard with most VoIP platforms. With a traditional system you would pay extra for each of those features.
Your employees can also use their business phone number from anywhere. Working from home, at a coffee shop in Venice, or visiting a client in Orange County, they can make and receive calls on their cell phone using the business number. Clients never know the difference.
The Numbers Make Sense
A typical traditional phone system for a 15-person office in LA might cost around 800 to 1200 dollars a month depending on your carrier and features. A comparable VoIP system usually runs between 300 and 500 dollars a month for the same number of users.
That savings adds up fast. Over a year you could be putting an extra six to eight thousand dollars back into your business.
Things to Watch Out For
VoIP quality depends entirely on your internet connection. If your internet is slow or unreliable, your phone calls will suffer. Before switching, make sure your internet bandwidth can handle voice traffic on top of everything else your team is doing online.
Your network needs to be configured to prioritize voice traffic. This is called Quality of Service or QoS. Without it, a large file download can make your phone calls choppy and unusable.
Power outages will take your phones down if you do not have battery backup on your network equipment. Traditional phone lines work during power outages, VoIP does not unless you plan for it.
