I cannot tell you how many times we have gotten the call. A business owner in Los Angeles just lost everything. Their server died, ransomware locked their files, or someone accidentally deleted a critical folder. And when they go to restore from their backup, they find out it has not been working for months.
This happens way more often than you would think. Do not let it happen to you.
The 3-2-1 Backup Rule
Every IT professional knows this rule but a surprising number of businesses ignore it. You need three copies of your data, stored on two different types of media, with one copy stored offsite.
That means your original files on your server, a backup on a local device like a NAS or external drive, and another backup in the cloud or at a different physical location. If you only have two of these three, you are taking a risk.
Why Local Backups Are Not Enough
We had a client in Culver City who was backing up to an external hard drive sitting right next to their server. A pipe burst over the weekend and both the server and the backup drive got destroyed. All their data was gone.
Local backups protect you from hardware failure and accidental deletion. But they do not protect you from theft, fire, flooding, or any disaster that affects your physical location. You absolutely need an offsite or cloud backup as well.
Cloud Backup Options
There are plenty of good cloud backup solutions for businesses. Veeam, Datto, and Acronis are the ones we recommend most often to our clients in Los Angeles. They all offer automatic daily backups with encryption and easy restoration.
The important thing is that the backup runs automatically. If it depends on someone remembering to plug in a drive or click a button, it will get forgotten. Automation is key.
Test Your Backups Regularly
Here is the part that most businesses skip. You should be testing your backup restoration at least once a quarter. Pull a file from your backup and make sure it opens correctly. Better yet, do a full test restore to make sure you can actually recover everything if you need to.
We have seen businesses with backup systems that had been silently failing for months. The software showed everything was fine, but when they actually needed to restore, the data was corrupted or incomplete.
Falcon Pros sets up and manages reliable backup systems for businesses across Los Angeles. We automate your backups, monitor them daily, and test restorations regularly so you never have to worry. Call (323) 441-6834 to protect your business data.
